Wil de echte gitarist opstaan! is een progressieve gitaarmethode voor akoestische of elektrische gitaar, bedoeld voor kinderen vanaf ongeveer 8 jaar oud waarin spelplezier centraal staat. Volwassenen kunnen echter ook door middel van dit boek een gedegen basis opbouwen voor het gitaar spelen. Aan de hand van vele leuke originele stukken wordt langzaam een basis opgebouwd voor een gedegen gitaartechniek en spel. Het boek is bedoeld om met een docent door te werken in 1 tot 1,5 jaar tijd (uitgaande van 30 minuten les per week en minimaal 15 minuten oefenen per dag), waarna een begin gemaakt kan worden met het spelen van allerlei popliedjes en de techniek verder uitgediept kan worden. De stukken zijn speels en hebben titels die de verbeelding prikkelen (zoals De Gekke Olifant, De Inbreker, Babi Panggang, etc.). De methode werkt met name met tablatuur, aangevuld met ritmisch noten lezen. Hierdoor kunnen al meteen vanaf het begin echte liedjes gespeeld worden en is het boek erg intuïtief. Snaar voor snaar worden nieuwe noten geleerd en gaandeweg worden zaken behandeld als ritmiek, plectrumtechniek, improvisatie, gehoortraining en akkoorden. De docent heeft hierin een sturende/ coachende rol en kan de meeste nummers ook begeleiden met akkoorden, improvisatie begeleiden en voordoen, gehooroefeningen doen, etc. Door al snel te starten met improviseren en soleren, kan de creativiteit van een leerling in een vroeg stadium reeds ontplooien. Veel songs zijn voorzien van akkoorden met verschillende ritmes, zodat de leerling in de loop van de methode een gedegen basiskennis van akkoorden en begeleidingsmanieren opdoet. Door de docent kan er eventueel voor gekozen worden later met de akkoorden te beginnen, zo kunnen de liedjes nog eens herhaald worden.
